Securing BGP

BGP is one of the key protocols that are used on the Internet today. Despite of its importance, the security of BGP is still a concern. Several solutions to improve the security of BGP have been proposed by the research community :

The IETF started to work on a simpler solution called Secure Origin BGP but this work was not continued and the IETF chartered the SIDR working group to initially develop certificates that could be used as a basis for a secure interdomain routing protocol. This work has well progressed and the second step has started with the publication of four Internet drafts on security extensions to BGP :
